Fire Department News
Commercial Structure Fire – August 4th
On the morning of Monday, August 4th, the West Sacramento Fire Department was dispatched to a commercial structure fire at 1542 Jefferson Boulevard. Upon arrival, crews observed smoke showing from a boarded-up former laundromat attached to a 7-Eleven.
An aggressive interior attack was initiated under zero-visibility conditions due to heavy smoke. Truck 45 performed vertical ventilation, which improved interior visibility and conditions for the interior crews.
Engine personnel located and extinguished the fire, successfully preventing any extension to the adjacent businesses. A primary search of the structure confirmed that no victims were inside. No injuries were reported during the incident.
Structure Fire Response – August 3rd
On Sunday, August 3rd at approximately 1:00 PM, fire crews responded to reports of a structure fire in the area of Marshall Road and Jefferson Boulevard. Upon arrival, crews observed a large column of smoke coming from the rear of the property.
Upon gaining access, crews discovered a pile of trash actively burning in the yard, posing a threat to multiple nearby trailers and vehicles. Firefighters worked quickly to deploy an attack hose line and force entry to the affected area.
The fire was successfully brought under control with no extension to surrounding structures or vehicles. No injuries were reported.
Mutual Aid Deployment – Gifford Fire
On Saturday, August 2, the West Sacramento Fire Department deployed four personnel on OES 8535 to assist with the Gifford Fire in Santa Barbara County.
The crew is currently assigned to a regional strike team working in coordination with multiple fire agencies to combat the rapidly growing wildfire in the Los Padres National Forest, northeast of Santa Maria.
The Gifford Fire was first reported along Highway 166 on August 1 and has since expanded to over 96,000 acres with only 15% containment. Evacuation orders and road closures remain in effect as firefighting efforts intensify. Our personnel remain committed to supporting statewide containment efforts and protecting impacted communities during this challenging incident.
Fire Hazard Severity Zone Exclusion
Per California Government Code 51178, the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is charged with creating maps to identify levels of fire hazard within the state. The OSFM utilizes fire scientists, and wildfire mitigation experts, to develop maps using a science-based and field-tested model that assigns a hazard score based on the factors that influence fire likelihood and fire behavior. We are happy to announce that after the most recent state survey, West Sacramento was notified by the State Fire Marshal that we do not have any areas within our city that would be classified as a Fire Hazard Severity Zone of any category.
